September 19, 2012Carnival CEO Micky Arison heads the list of the richest Florida residents on the Forbes 400 list.
Despite the financial troubles cruise giant Carnival Corp. has faced during the past year, Arison came in at No. 68 on the list with income of $5 billion.
The list includes 32 Florida residents with the majority of those living in the tri-county area. On the list, you’ll find everyone from sports mogul Malcolm Glazer and hedge fund investor Edward Lampert to Subway founder Fred DeLuca. Plus, prominent local business leaders like Phillip Frost, H. Wayne Huizenga and Norman Braman.
The entire Forbes 400 list for 2012 rings up a total net worth of $1.7 trillion, up from $1.5 trillion last year. The average net worth of a Forbes 400 member is $4.2 billion, the highest ever as two-thirds of those on the list saw their individual fortunes grow in the past year.
Leading the list nationally as the three richest entrepreneurs are Microsoft’s Bill Gates, Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffett and Oracle’s Larry Ellison, who maintained their spots at 1, 2 and 3.
