Waste Management Inc. has purchased Best Disposal, a small family-owned trash hauler in Austin, Minn.

WM spokeswoman Julie Ketchum confirmed to the Austin Post-Bulletin that the deal closed Aug. 1.

Best Disposal, which opened in 2010, had 1,350 customers.

“The decision was a very hard one,” co-owner Don Hagen told the newspaper. “We grew it from zero, and we had continued growth right up to the end. We’ve been looking at 40-41 percent growth.”

Ketchum told the Post-Bulletin that the purchase “matches and fits in nicely with the current market for our company; it augments a foundation that Waste Management already has in the community.”

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
