August 27, 2012MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS AND WASTE MANAGEMENT ANNOUNCES RESUMPTION OF OPERATIONS ON MONDAY, AUGUST 27, 2012
Advisory #19
(MIAMI, August 26, 2012) – The Miami-Dade County Public Works and Waste Management Department (PWWM) will resume normal operations on Monday, August 27, 2012. The Department’s administrative offices and operational facilities will be open to the public for regular business. Please see details below on the service resumption:
Public Works Functions:
The Rickenbacker and Venetian Causeway toll plazas remain operational. Drivers will be required to pay tolls on these roadways.
- PWWM will begin procedures for opening the draw bridges at 7 a.m. on Monday. The openings will begin from the mouth of the Miami River (Miami Ave) starting with the Miami Ave Bridge to the west and finish at the Tamiami Swing Bridge at Delaware Blvd.
- Most traffic signals are currently operational; however, if a motorist encounters a traffic signal which is completely out, it is to be treated as a four-way stop.
Waste Management Functions:
- Weekly curbside garbage pickup and every-other-week recycling collection service for PWWM Department waste collection* and recycling customers** will be provided on regular pickup days. Residents should place their carts at the curb by 7a.m. as normal; however, collection may be later in the day than residents are accustomed to. For areas where roads remain inaccessible to garbage and recycling collection vehicles, residents should place their green waste carts at the curbside of the nearest open street.
- The 13 Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers will observe normal hours of operation from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sunday to Saturday. PWWM waste collection customers can deliver manageable storm debris, yard trash and other household trash. No garbage is accepted at these centers.
- Bulky waste scheduling is available by calling 3-1-1 or scheduling online at www.miamidade.gov/publicworks. Due to the volume of calls anticipated following the storm, collection may take longer than the normal 1-9 day service goal.
- All PWWM disposal facilities – The Resources Recovery Facility, South and North Dade Landfills and the Northeast, Central and West Transfer Stations – will observe regular hours of operation.
For more information on resumption of waste and recycling services or to report issues with traffic signals, damaged or missing street signs, potholes, downed street lights, or street flooding, residents should call 3-1-1, the County’s Answer Center, or visit the Department’s website at www.miamidade.gov/publicworks .
*The PWWM Department provides curbside waste collection and recycling services to single-family residents in the unincorporated service area and the cities of Aventura, Cutler Bay, Doral, Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest and Sunny Isles Beach.
**The PWWM Department provides only curbside recycling services to single-family residents in the following cities: El Portal, Florida City, Medley, Miami Beach, Miami Springs, North Bay Village, North Miami Beach, Opa-locka, South Miami, Surfside, Virginia Gardens and West Miami.
